Dereham Summer Project

Ellie Brown

What a summer we have had! It has been brilliant to have been able to put on a wide variety of activities for teenagers in summer... for free!

Before the holidays started, we ran a survey to see what young people wanted to, and we are happy to say we made a lot of those suggestions come true! We were able to provide sports, crafts, a drama workshop, first aid session, cooking workshop, bowling, and more! Not only that, but we also loved being out on the rec, providing a safe space for teenagers to come and hang out.

Over 55 young people engaged with the project over the summer. It was lovely to see everyone get stuck into the activities, grow in confidence and make new friendships.

A massive thank you to the guys at The Cycle Exchange Dereham and Tom Francis for helping to run the activities. We look forward to working with them in the future. Also, thank you to Breckland Council for funding the project, and Dereham Town Council and Zoe Flint for helping to make it happen!

We also took to the time to keep asking what the young people wanted to see in Dereham long-term. We are working hard behind the scenes to make these ideas happen and to provide more youth support in the area moving forward.
